I am sure you will all know about the
catastrophic incident at the Buncefield Oil Terminal, indeed many of our
customers will have been affected by it – some very seriously. At Furnells we consider ourselves to
be very very lucky indeed. We
did sustain damage to our reception area and warehouse doors but,
fortunately, it was relatively minor.

Temporary Office |
On the Monday after the incident, we
set up an emergency office in the home of our MD, David Furnell, however, we
couldn’t get any of our vehicles out of the Lorry Park. Nothing daunted we hired a couple of
trucks and carried out as many of the most urgent deliveries as possible
under the circumstances. We even
managed to do a delivery to Jersey in the Channel Islands. By Tuesday we had retrieved a couple of vehicles
from the warehouse yard and on Wednesday we were able, under police escort,
to rescue a few more. |

Thursday saw us back in the offices
and, more or less, in full swing again.
Repairs have begun and we understand that these will be completed within
a few days!! Interestingly, we have been looking through our security tapes
for Sunday 11th December – what happens at 6.04am makes for
terrifying viewing. |

Rest assured that at Furnells it is “Business as Usual”. We should like to take this opportunity to thank all our
customers for their support and understanding in what has been an extremely
trying time for us all. Thank you too
to those customers who have allowed us to use their premises to park up our
vehicles. It is much appreciated as it
was simply not feasible for us to take them in and out of the Lorry Park. Finally, we are sure you will join us in wishing a speedy
recovery to those unfortunate individuals who were caught up in the explosion… and we are so thankful that no Furnell
employees were involved… |
