Through the roof

We recently completed a job for Johnson Matthey that took us through the roof! Unlike Father Christmas we entered via a pre-drilled 30cm diameter hole.
We were delivering a Dot Line Printer and Linear Slide, two pieces of valuable and highly sensitive equipment, that needed to be lifted one on top of the other.
The access hole gave sufficient height clearance to do the lifting, as the total height when positioned was nearly 9ft.
It also enabled us to use a set of ‘Brothers’ – four linked but separate chains – that can be attached to all four corners of an item at one time for safe lifting purposes.
We hired in a manitou forklift with a 13m lift capacity – ‘a beast of a machine’ – to lift an A frame and hoist mechanism onto the roof.
Once positioned in place, the Brothers were fitted to the print head through the hole. This was carefully lifted and then positioned onto the slider, which had been placed directly underneath the hole with the aid of a pallet truck.
This job had required much detailed planning and a site survey beforehand to ensure the work could be carried out with the precision needed.
Both our customer at Johnson Matthey and the German engineers on site, helping with the install, were highly delighted with the outcome, as were our own team on site, for a job well done.
